Amendment Rules for Electing Convention

Special Rules for the Electing Convention were adopted at the Diocesan Convention of 2019, before we knew that our process would be affected by COVID-19. These Rules must be adjusted in order for us to proceed with the election of the next Bishop of Oregon.

All Delegates (Lay and Clergy) are asked to review the full text prior to Convention and be ready to vote to approve when we convene August 29, 2020. The full text of the Amendment to the Rules for the Electing Convention can be found by following the link below.  The primary changes are:

  1. Allows for the convention to be done online rather than in person.
  2. Identifies the “floor of convention” as the electronic platform.  The platform determines the method of voting, so it also modifies some language around voting.
  3. Proposes stricter limitations on the use of electronics, who is allowed on the floor, and communications to those outside of convention while convention is in session.
  4. Brings the definition of quorum in line with our current Diocesan Constitution and Canons and helps clarify how a successful election will be accomplished.
