By Martin Loring, Chair, 11th Bishop of Oregon Search Committee
It has been a while since you have heard directly from the Search Committee. We have been fully engaged in a process of mutual discernment with a very good group of priests and are now moving toward our final two parts in the process of calling our next bishop.
We are very excited to meet with the semi-finalists and expect to share the final slate on March 6, 2020.
If, after reviewing the final slate, someone feels called to nominate an additional candidate, they can nominate by petition March 7-21. The petition process includes nominations from at least three congregations in two convocations, as well as background checks, and all the information that will have been released about the slate. A more thorough description of the process is available here.
Once the final slate and petition nomination process are published, the Search Committee will have completed its tasks. The Standing Committee will oversee any petitions, and the rest of the process will rest in the very capable hands of the Transition Committee.
On behalf of the Search Committee, I thank you for the trust placed in us, as well as the help (and prayers) that many of you have offered up in this process. It has been an honor and a privilege.
